Cochin Carnival

Cochin Carnival, the new year revelry origins right from the portuguese colonial days and carried forward now also is one of the main festival in Kerala itself. People from different part of globe come to cochin for this event. Usually the festival is observed during last week of every year with lot of cultural, sports and fun events and end a valedictory carnival at January 1st. And all the winners will awarded at that night.

This year carnival celebrations is inaugurated by Sri. Dominic Presentation MLA and switch on ceremony of 1000 Christmas Stars on Carnival Path is done by Mayor Tony Chimini on 21st December 2014 at Vasco Da Gama Square. Utharayanam, Musical program was the main event on the day.

A Carnival fair and amusement park is also set from 21st at Fort Kochi Veli Ground till 1st January.

Apart of Ganamela, Ghazals, Folk Songs, Oppana, Kathakali, Mohiniyattam, Kathaprasangam, Chavittunadakam, mega shows and other event on different venue, Various Cultural and sports competitions will conducted during this period. Also there is prizes for best illuminated house in Fort Kochi.

Burning of Santa claus at Fort Kochi Beach at ringing of new year is best part of the new year celebration in kochi.

The Valedictory ceremony on New year day (3 PM), the colourful and spectacular carnival with beautifully themed floats, fancy dress, martial and cultural art forms will take procession from Fort Kochi Veli Ground to Parade Ground where the concluding ceremony is conducting. People for various places come to kochi and stand on either sides of the roads where procession going by. And also there will be DJ Programs at Fort Kochi Veli ground on Dec 31st and Jan 1st.
