Onam Special Kalan

Prep Time: 20 minutes

  • Chena – 250 gms
  • Grated Coconut – 1 cup
  • Green Chilies – 5 nos
  • Jeeragam – 1tsp
  • Chili powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
  • Curry leaves – 10 leaves
  • Curd/ Yogurt – 1 cup
  • Mustard seeds – 1/2tsp
  • Methi Seeds – 1/2tsp
  • Dry red chilies – 3nos
  • Salt
  • Oil
In a vessel, add chena with water. Then add chili powder and turmeric powder. Keep vessel in the pressure cooker. When 1st whistle comes, reduce the flame & cook for 15 minutes. In the mixi jar, add the grated coconut,jeera seeds,chili powder,green chilies and curry leaves. Now grind it and add curd to it. After adding curd to this,grind it again. Take the cooked chena from the pressure cooker. Remove excess water and smash chena slightly.Add the grinded coconut-curd paste and mix well. Keep it in low flame. When bubbles start coming, switch off the flame. In a pan, heat oil. And then add rai,ulava,dry red chilies & curry leaves. Now add this into prapared curry and serve it.
