Bittergourd Theeyal Recipe

Prep Time: 15 minutes

  • Bittergourd (Pavakka) - 2 nos
  • Shallots(Kunjulli) - 2 cups
  • Shredded coconut - 2 cups
  • Chillypowder - 1 tsp
  • Turmericpowder - 3/4 tsp
  • Corianderpowder - 1 tsp
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • Mustardseeds - 1 tsp
  • Curryleaves - 2 - 3 sprig
  • Redchillies (Kollamulaku) - 3 nos
  • Tamarind juice
In a pan, heat oil and add shallots and bitter gourd pieces. Add salt and cook on a low flame. Another pan, heat oil and roast coconut, till it turns brown. Now add chilly powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder and roast for a few more seconds. Grind this into a fine paste. Now you can add this paste into the shallots-bitter gourd pieces and mix well and cook on low flame. Add tamarind juice to it. In a pan, add mustard seeds, red chillies and curry leaves. Add this into prepared curry and serve.
